Created to honor the large Irish population in Massachusetts. Because of the oppression Ireland suffered at the hands of England, Ireland’s traditional attire is rather simple, consisting mostly of a tunic with a belt worn around the waist. The Shamrocks became a distinctive symbol of the Irish after the British forcefully presented them as a Holly symbol of the Trinity.
