Dominican Republic: Diablo Cojuelo Papelu

Paper Limping Devil - Carnival character from the town of Cotui, Dominican Republic, and born from the legacy of the African slaves in the island. The mask is usually made of the shell of an Higuero or Calabash tree, and the body is covered by strings of paper, which are burned on the last day of carnival, as a way of getting rid of bad energy and welcoming a new future.
